One of our employee’s Rorke went to watch the Uyanda Mbuli / Joyce Molamu sentencing in the Midrand Magistrates Court today. All the reports that she was found guilty of criminal defamation are rubbish. She was found guilty of two counts of crimen injuria.
Mbuli laid the crimen injuria charges against Molamu in July last year after she posted on Facebook that she was a "stupid b****" and accused her of trying to steal her businessman boyfriend King Maseko. Molamu also posted Mbuli's personal cellphone number - telling her followers to find Mbuli "a blesser" so that she could stop asking Maseko for money.
Molamu was sentenced to:
• A R6000 fine or a suspended 4-month prison sentence
• 350 hours of community service and
• She must attend an 8-week adult life-skills programme through NICRO.
The Magistrate drew attention to the fact that, particularly as an LLB student wanting to become a lawyer, Molamu should have reacted rationally rather than giving in to her emotions. She now has a criminal record. ... See more
